Musicality of Greek v Latin
I am still pondering on this topic, but it seems to me that Classical Greek is more musical than Latin and this fact might have been one of the reasons why many Scholars, Philosophers and Statesmen of Ancient Rome were so well disposed towards the Greek Language.
My first impression is that the frequency spectrum of these two languages is greater for Greek than for Latin, both in terms of fundamental frequencies and relative harmonics. This may be accounted for by the fact that the mixture of vowels seems greater to me, and the choice of endings for the declensions combine to give the Greek language greater musicality than Latin.
These are pondered statements and no experimental verification has been done by me. But as a scientist I would like to think that I am close to the truth!
This statement might prove a good exercise for some undergraduate student in Linguistics, or even Physics or Electronics Engineering. A statistical study on the relative frequency of occurrences of the letter "u" in Latin would also be interesting to analyze.
