1 iugera = 3.7 ha (hectares)
The Lex Villia made provisions for allocating 500 iugera/lot hence 135ha or 337 acres of arable land/lot. The USA Act of Congress in 1889 made provisions for allocating 160 acres of land/lot. The surplus land was to be confiscated from the latifundia holders and distributed to the poor citizens. An additional proposal was submitted by C. Gracchus to allocate 250 iugera for each additional child, but this amendement was not passed.
